Pork Scratchings

G Simmons and Sons has been established for over 40 years beginning with Graham, and later joined by his sons Shaun and Mark. The business started out as a butchers shop which manufactured much of its produce at the back of the shop. These included sausage, burgers, black pudding, faggots, cooked meats and of course pork scratchings. In fact, over 30 years ago G Simmons and Sons were being recognised for the quality of their pork scratchings when they came second in a competition, beaten only by a producer who bought their scratchings from G Simmons and Sons and had them packed in his own name. The butcher shop was eventually closed and pork scratchings were produced at the back of the shop full time.

In 1994 following new regulation from Brussels, G Simmons And Sons was relocated to Walsall where a new purpose built unit was built with the sole purpose of producing pork scratchings. It was one of the first food manufacturers in Walsall to receive an EEC food licence meaning they could not only supply to the UK but also export anywhere in Europe. It was soon apparent that the unit was not big enough to cope with demand and so they purchased the unit next door and eventually expanded into the room above the ground floor adding mezzanine floors to both units.

Today the brand is recognised through out the Midlands and beyond, but they do not only supply their own brand but also pack their scratchings for other companies in their brand name, so who knows you may have already eaten their famous Pork Scratchings and not realised, other than thinking ‘mmm those were excellent’.
